Thomasville, NC Thomasville Medical Center (TMC) has received the prestigious designation as a nationally accredited Chest Pain Center from The Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). This designation recognizes the medical centers expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding nationally established stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the SCPC.
"We're honored to be one of the few community hospitals in the state to meet the rigorous standards required to receive accreditation from The Society of Chest Pain Centers," says Romona Carver, manager of the Chest Pain Center and Intensive Care Unit for TMC. "This national recognition of our achievements in providing cardiac care is another indication of the superior level of medical care available at Thomasville Medical Center."
To receive Chest Pain Center accreditation, Thomasville was required to demonstrate its expertise and commitment to quality cardiac care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
Key areas in which Thomasville Medical Center was required to demonstrate expertise include:
- Integrating the emergency department with the local emergency medical system
- Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients quickly
- Effectively treating patients with low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
- Having a functional design that promotes optimal patient care
- Ensuring Chest Pain Center personnel competency and training
- Maintaining organizational structure and commitment
- Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures
- Supporting community outreach programs that educate the public to promptly seek medical care with the onset of symptoms of a possible heart attack
TMC has the systems, technology, and board-certified emergency physicians and cardiologists available 24/7 to streamline care, from diagnosis to treatment.
The goal of the Society of Chest Pain Centers is to significantly reduce the mortality rate of these patients by teaching the public to recognize and react to the early symptoms of a possible heart attack, reduce the time that it takes to receive treatment and increase the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment.
