Josephine Citrin, local attorney, recently presented a check in the amount of $75,000 to the newly created Thomasville Medical Center Foundation Endowment Fund from the Estate of Miss Elizabeth Shearer Blair. Miss Blair was reared in Thomasville and was the daughter of the late Julius R. Blair and the late Annie Shearer Blair. Julius R. Blair was an executive with Thomasville Chair Company and served as mayor pro-tem of the City of Thomasville. The Blairs lived on Salem Street from the 1920s until 2003.
After graduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill, Miss Blair relocated to New York City and entered the world of broadcasting with and ABC and NBC. She had a lucrative career for over 40 years and was also an avid dancer who taught World War II G.I.s to dance. Miss Blair was a world traveler until she returned to Thomasville to aid her ailing mother.
Linda Hunt, Executive Director of Foundation for TMC, accepted the check on behalf of the Endowment Fund and expressed her gratitude for the generosity of this great person who was such a kind and lovely lady who lived life to the fullest. Hunt said, "Elizabeth Blair was the kind of person you never forget and you had to admire her colorful personality and benevolence. And now through her generosity, she left a gift to support the Endowment Fund."
The goal of the Foundation is to build a strong Endowment Fund that will ensure the future of the hospital and health care in our community. "Miss Blair believed in Thomasville Medical Center and the TMC Foundation" continues Hunt, "and this gift is confirmation."
