Annual Willie Wheezer Asthma Camp
Come experience a unique weeklong adventure designed specially for those children who suffer from asthma.
Asthma Camp
Thomasville Medical Center Foundation hosts the Annual Willie Wheezer Asthma summer day camp for children seven to twelve years of age in an effort to provide an environment for campers to experience outdoor adventure and to grow physically and mentally while increasing their ability to manage asthma. The camp is held at Camp Keyauwee in Sophia, NC. Campers begin and conclude the day camp at Thomasville Medical Center.
The Cardio-pulmonary Department of Thomasville Medical Center provides medical expertise and serves as counselors for the "Willie Wheezer's Asthma Week at Camp Keyauwee". Mike Crabb, Registered Respiratory Therapist, said "the American Lung Association reports that 6.2 million children under the age of 18 suffer from asthma. In addition, asthma accounted for an estimated 14 million lost school days in children, and is the third leading cause of hospitalization among children under the age of 15. Our goal is to provide the children a camp that will be a time of recreation and education in hopes of reducing lost school days or hospital admissions for the attendees by helping them better manage their asthma."
For more information about camp, please call the TMC Foundation Office at 336- 476-2881.
