Colorectal screening tests should be performed even before any symptoms appear. If detected early enough, colorectal cancer can be effectively treated in its early stages. Regular colorectal screening should begin at age 50 for males or females.

Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT)

A Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) is used to detect hidden (occult) traces of blood in the stool.

Colonoscopy

During a colonoscopy, the entire colon is examined for polyps or abnormalities. If a polyp is found, the physician is able to remove it during the procedure.

Double-Contrast Barium Enema (DCBE)

Using a substance to open up the colon, the double-contrast barium enema allows x-ray images to be taken.
